Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi told City News Service that there were nine patients, including a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s - both drivers - who were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange in serious condition.

Another man and woman were taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana with moderate injuries, Concialdi said.

Five other patients -- a man, two women, a 9-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy came from one of the vehicles, an SUV. They were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

The other injured people -- including the two seriously injured drivers -- were from the other three vehicles in the pileups. The OCFA sent a total of five paramedic units to the two scenes, Concialdi said.

The Anaheim and Fullerton fire departments each sent one paramedic unit, he said.
