OC City Lowers Flags For ICE Enforcement Deaths

An Orange County city has lowered its flag to half-staff in memory of Renee Good, Alex Pretti and others.

SANTA ANA, CA — The City of Santa Ana lowered its flags to half-staff in recognition of the lives lost in Minnesota at the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Wednesday.

The decision to lower flags comes as tensions skyrocket across the country due to increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.

"The lowered flag symbolizes the City's deep concern about the federal government's ongoing activities that have contributed to fear, the erosion of civil rights, and trauma in communities across the country, including Santa Ana," city officials said in a statement. "We reaffirm our commitment to constitutional rights, including peaceful protest, and call for accountability."

Pretti was shot and killed by ICE agents in Minnesota on Saturday.

Pretti was shot and killed by ICE agents after he tried to help a woman who was being taken into custody on a downtown Minneapolis street. The ICU nurse was first pepper-sprayed and then fatally shot after ICE agents found that he had a legally-permitted gun in his possession.

Pretti's death comes just weeks after Renee Good was fatally killed by ICE agents after trying to drive away in her SUV after officers ordered her to get out of the vehicle.

Good's widow, Becca Good, is reportedly under federal investigation to determine whether she impeded the ICE officer who fatally shot her wife.
