OC Dad Stabbed Son With Screwdriver During 'Talk About God' At Sober House, DA Says

The child was stabbed twice in the neck during a conversation with his father about God, authorities said.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — An 8-year-old was hospitalized after he was stabbed twice in the neck with a screwdriver by his father while visiting the man at an Orange County sober living facility, authorities said.

The incident happened on Feb. 10, when the father, a 28-year-old Santa Ana man, reportedly took his son into his room and placed him on his lap to "talk about God" before telling his son he was "going to send him to God."

He then attacked the boy, authorities said, holding him down on the bed and stabbing him twice with a screwdriver and slashing his hands with a knife. According to the Orange County District Attorney's office, the father covered his son's mouth and nose to keep him from yelling.

A resident living at the facility pulled the father off the boy, who was bleeding excessively, after hearing his screams. According to authorities, the 8-year-old's mother and stepfather were waiting in the driveway to pick the child up from his visit at the time.

The father, who was not identified by name, faces multiple charges including attempted murder. He could receive a maximum sentence of more than 15 years if convicted, officials said.
