OC High School Evacuated Thursday Afternoon: Police

A student with a replica gun prompted school officials to evacuate the campus, police say.

SANTA ANA, CA — An Orange County high school was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a student was found to be in possession of a replica gun, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

The evacuation was reported at 1:49 p.m. at Nova Academy Early College High School in Santa Ana, police said.

The campus was shortly after "deemed safe" by authorities, and police remain on the scene assessing the situation. As of 2:45 p.m., authorities said the evacuation was prompted by a student in possession of a replica handgun.

No injuries were reported and school was expected to resume once police leave the scene.

Parents who wish to pick up their students prior to school ending were advised to park at 3rd Street and Birch Street before walking to the school, located at 500 W. Santa Ana Blvd.
