OC Officer Critically Injured By Vehicle During Foot Pursuit Of Suspect

The officer was struck by an unrelated vehicle while he was chasing a suspect on foot.

GARDEN GROVE, CA — A police officer was critically injured this morning when he was struck by a vehicle during a foot pursuit of an assault with a deadly weapon suspect in Garden Grove, authorities said.

About 12:05 a.m., officers were in the area of Brookhurst Street and Stanford Avenue investigating an assault with a deadly weapon call when they attempted to detain a man allegedly armed with a knife, who was involved in an altercation, according to a Garden Grove Police Department news statement.

The suspect ignored officers' commands, triggering a foot pursuit.

The officer was struck by an unrelated vehicle that was traveling on Brookhurst Street. Paramedics rushed the officer, in critical condition, to a hospital.

The suspect, who fled, was later caught and taken into custody.
