OC Woman Recounts Horrific Attack By 'Mexican Jeffrey Dahmer'
A man suspected in 20 murders in Mexico was held down by neighbors after raping and killing a teen and stabbing her mother, police said.
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — A pharmacist suspected of killing more than a dozen women in Mexico was held down by neighbors and arrested this month when he was caught in the act raping and murdering a teen and stabbing her mother, according to multiple reports.
Now an Orange County community is rallying around the teen's aunt, a cancer patient from Santa Ana, who is currently in Mexico fighting for justice and helping her sister recover from stab wounds.
Some refer to the 49-year-old pharmaceutical chemist as the "Mexican Jeffrey Dahmer," but Santa Ana resident Angela Calles — a sister of one of more than 20 reported victims — calls him a "monster."

Calles told Fox 11 that her sister had been running errands in Mexico City on April 16, 2024 when Cortez apparently attacked her daughter.
"She found this guy in my niece’s room, and she was already dead. He attacked my sister too. She has a stab wound on her leg, neck, left lung, and pelvic area," Calles said.

"My sister tried to stop him, but he stabbed them both as he tried to escape. My niece died at the scene due to her injuries," Calles wrote on the family's GoFundMe. "My sister is currently in the hospital, she's in critical condition and we don't know if she'll survive. Her injuries are so severe that even if she makes it, her life will never be the same."
While Cortez tried to leave the scene, neighbors held him down until authorities arrived. Investigators made a gruesome discovery later after finding human remains and several human craniums inside Cortez's apartment, according to reports.
