OCDA Reportedly Made 'Racist Comments' In Case Of Black Defendant

An OC prosecutor who was fired last week detailed OCDA Todd Spitzer's comments in a memo acquired by the LA Times.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A memo authored by a former Orange County prosecutor alleges that Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer made "racist comments" while discussing the case of a Black murder defendant, the LA Times reported Wednesday.

The Dec. 3 memo authored by former prosecutor Ebrahim Baytieh said that during a meeting of top prosecutors on Oct. 1, Spitzer said that he knew many Black men who date white women in order to get "themselves out of their bad circumstances and bad situations," the LA Times reported.

This discussion was in reference to the case of Jamon Buggs, a Black man who was charged with fatally shooting two people in Newport Beach in 2019.

“Based upon what you have said, it is clear you don’t have all of the documents,” OCDA Spokesperson Kimberly Edds told the LA Times in regard to the memo. “This is currently before a court of law and we are unable to comment further.”
