OPA Issues Update On Santiago Regional Park, Canyon Fire 2

OC Residents Looking To Visit Santiago Oaks Regional Park Can Access Updated Maps Provided by OPA, Area Severely Impacted From Canyon 2 Fire

(Orange Park Acres, CA) - Orange Park Acres’ Board of Directors has provided the public with an update regarding access to Santiago Oaks Regional Park in the aftermath of the Canyon 2 fire.

“On Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 the Canyon Fire 2 started near the intersection of the 91 and 241,” wrote Don Bradley, President and the Orange Park Association Board of Directors.

“The fire burned through Anaheim Hills and East Orange, extensively burning four County regional parks,” Bradley wrote. “Of the more than 9,000 acres estimated damaged in the Canyon Fire 2, the large majority are within four OC Parks regional parks: Irvine Regional Park, Santiago Oaks Regional Park, Peters Canyon Regional Park, and Irvine Ranch Open Space. Other facilities, including several regional trail segments, are also damaged.”

Portions of Santiago Oaks Regional Park will be open as of 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.

Trespassing in closed areas and on closed trails will not be tolerated. Trespassers will be cited (OCCO 2-5-46).

  • The Windes parking lot will be open, and trails will be accessible via Towhee Trail.
  • The following trails will be OPEN: Anaheim Hills, Barham Ridge, Bumble Bee (partial closure), Cactus Canyon, Deer, Grasshopper, Hawk, Mountain Goat, Mountain Goat Enhancement, Oak (partial closure), Peralta Hills, Sage Ridge, Santiago Creek (partial closure), Towhee, Weir Canyon, Wilderness (partial closure), Windes (partial closure).
  • The following trails will be CLOSED: Arizona Crossing, Bobcat Meadow, Bumble Bee (partial closure), Chutes, Chutes Ridgeline, Coachwhip, Historic Dam, Lady Bug, Oak (partial closure), Pacifica, Pony, Rinker Grove, Santiago Creek (partial closure), Sour Grass, Wilderness (partial closure), Willows, Windes (partial closure), Windes Nature.
