Orange County Coronavirus Counts Increase: 4,742 Cases, 10 Deaths

After days of no fatalities reported, 10 more residents have died as a result of coronavirus, with 253 still in the hospital.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — On Wednesday, 10 more Orange County residents died as a result of coronavirus, over half of those were nursing home residents, according to reports from Orange County Health Care.

Out of the county's 3.2 million residents, over 86,694 have been tested. Of those, 4,742 have tested positive for the virus.

Though other counties are sharing statistics related to coronavirus recovery, Orange County Public Health has not released figures on those who have recovered from the virus as of this report.

Thus far, Orange County nursing homes account for over 500 of the total infected, and 360 more cases are inmates at Orange County jails.

As of Tuesday, there are 253 Orange County residents hospitalized due to the virus, and 93 of those are in intensive care battling the disease.

Thus far, 98 people have died as a result of the virus and 30 of the deceased were residents of skilled nursing facilities in Orange County.

No inmates have died as of this report.

More men than women have contracted the coronavirus in Orange County, and 60 men have died of the virus while only 38 women have died.

Of those who have died:

  • 2 were between 25 and 34 years old
  • 4 were between 35 and 44 years old
  • 9 were between 45 and 54 years old
  • 14 were between 55 and 64 years old
  • 16 were between 65 and 74 years old
  • 28 were between 75 and 84 years old
  • 25 were over 85 years old.

Though the OC Health Care Agency reported an additional 775 tests completed Wednesday. The number of completed tests reported was still much lower than previous days, however a spokesperson for the health care agency says that the system issue has been resolved.

Funding for small businesses in Orange County was partially approved, Tuesday.OC Board of Supervisors approved a proposal for distributing aid to their towns & failed to agree on funding for nonprofits, small business.

More Orange County beaches were opened to active use this week in advance of Memorial Day, for active use only, along with county and national parks.

After being some of the first in the county to be infected with coronavirus, and since recovering, several Orange County Firefighters are now donating antibody-rich plasma. It will be used to help those suffering COVID-19.

On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced loosening restrictions to allow most of the counties in the stateto reopen businesses in his phase 2 plan. Orange County's officials are optimistic that many businesses will be open by the weekend.
