Orange County Hits All-Time High For New Coronavirus Cases

Orange County confirmed 304 new coronavirus cases Sunday, its highest-ever single-day increase as the county continues to reopen.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Another 304 cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Orange County Sunday, the highest-single-day increase since the crisis began. Four additional deaths were also reported Sunday, continuing a recent uptick in both categories.

The county has now recorded a total of 8,573 cases and 221 deaths associated with COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Officials with the Orange County Health Care Agency said last week was their deadliest week since the pandemic began, with 43 deaths.

The number of people hospitalized dropped from 306 as of Saturday to 290, while the number of patients in intensive care dropped from 151 to 144. The number of people who tested for the virus in the county stands at 181,567, with 4,091 documented recoveries.

Santa Ana leads all county cities with 1,830 cases, followed by Anaheim with 1,595. The high numbers in those cities are attributed to their large populations and the presence of multiple nursing homes in the cities.

The numbers come as more sectors of the economy are authorized to begin reopening in the area. In addition to bars, gyms and theaters, community pools, schools, day camps, museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, wineries and family entertainment centers have also received permission to reopen in Orange County.
