ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Multiple Orange County towns ranked among the top 20 safest cities in the state of California, with five in the top 10, according to SafeWise, an online safety resource. SafeWise analyzed the state's communities to find the 50 safest cities. For perspective, the Golden State has a total of 482 municipalities. In the top 10, Irvine ranked number #2, Rancho Santa Margarita ranked #3, Yorba Linda #4, Laguna Niguel at #9 and Aliso Viejo coming in at #10, according to the report.

To compile this report, SafeWise analysts reviewed the most recent 2017 FBI crime statistics and census population data. The evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes in each city per 1,000 people. If there was a tie, they also factored in the number of property crimes including burglary, and car theft. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or failed to submit a complete FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.

According to the SafeWise analysis, there are 45,088 residents living in Danville, but only .35 violent crimes per 1,000 people, and 7.83 property crimes per 1,000 people.
