Parts Of Orange County Face Chance Of SoCal Edison Power Shutoff

Orange County is included in the public safety outage that may leave 98,705 customers without power across Southern California.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Roughly 98,705 Southern California Edison customers across Southern California may find themselves without power on Thanksgiving due to high winds forecasted throughout the region Wednesday through Friday, the utility company announced Tuesday.

Affected counties include: Kern County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Ventura County and parts of Orange County. Within Orange County, cities being considered for a shutoff include Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Trabuco Canyon and Silverado.

Nearly 8,571 Orange County Southern California Edison customers may be without power during the Santa Ana wind event, Thursday and Friday, the utility reported. Proactive power shutoffs are SCE's response to head off fire risk, in advance of potential downed power lines that are known to have sparked wildfires in the past.
