Pedestrian Fatally Struck On 5 Freeway: CHP

One person died while standing on the on the 5 Freeway in Orange County, authorities said.

SANTA ANA, CA — One person died while standing on the on the 5 Freeway in Orange County, authorities said.

Police responded at 12:44 a.m. Tuesday to the northbound side of the freeway and Gene Autry Way where a vehicle hit a pedestrian who was standing in the middle lanes of traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name was not released.

The collision closed the northbound freeway until 4:45 a.m. and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
