Barricaded OC Shooting Suspect Surrenders Near Chapman University

Officials were urging people to avoid an area around Chapman University where police received reports of gunfire and found shell casings.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A possible shooting suspect who was barricaded inside a home near Chapman University for hours after police received reports of gunfire surrendered "peacefully" late Sunday afternoon the Orange Police Department said.

Reports of gunfire south of the university in Orange prompted police to ask the public to avoid the area Sunday morning. Shell casings were found near the outskirts of the campus and a possible shooting suspect was holed up in a nearby residence, authorities said.

People were asked to avoid the area between Maple and Palm avenues, where police had contained the area, Chapman University tweeted. School officials assured that the campus was not threatened.
