Police Shoot, Kill 20-Year-Old Woman Holding Pellet Gun: Police
A 20-year-old woman was fatally shot in Orange County after she was seen holding a BB or pellet gun that looked like a real rifle.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed by Anaheim police after she was seen allegedly holding a BB or pellet gun that looked like a short-barrel assault weapon, the department said Monday.
Officers were sent to the 1200 block of South Anaheim Boulevard at about 9 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of someone armed with a rifle, according to an Anaheim Police Department statement.
Responding officers confronted the woman and then fired at her, police said. She was struck at least once.

She was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital, where she died, authorities said. She was later identified as Abigail Lopez.
The BB or pellet rifle was recovered at the scene, police said. No officers were injured.

An investigation was underway by the Orange county District Attorney's Office, Anaheim police and the Office of Independent Review.
