Red Flag Warning, Power Outages Possible In Inland Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — The Santa Ana winds picked up the pace Monday afternoon across the downslopes of inland Orange County's mountains. A red flag warning is in place across the region until midday Tuesday.

With the Bond Fire now over 60 percent contained, the threat of wildfire in Orange County's inland area remains high as Southern California Edison released their estimated outage reports. All previously evacuated residents have been allowed to return to their homes. However, all will remain on evacuation warning and should be ready to go at a moment's notice.

"The wind has begun to pick back up in the canyon, and it's getting warmer," Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Than Nguyen tells Patch. Over 1,500 firefighters are currently working the scorched area, watching for roll-outs—embers and stumps that could rekindle new fires in the area.

Meanwhile, Southern California Edison monitors severe wind events to help residents prepare for possible outage alerts. As downed power lines cause many wildfires, shutting off power to area residents and businesses is just one way the power utility can mitigate potential disaster.

Residents of the Dove Canyon, Trabuco Canyon areas will be under Public Safety Power Outage warning from 3 p.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday, SCE reported.
