Radiant Futures and Yay Foundation to Co-host API Comedy Show, May 22

Nonprofit Radiant Futures, formerly Women’s Transitional Living Center, Inc. (WTLC), is collaborating with the Yay Foundation to co-host the first Asian Pacific Islander Comedy Show at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center.

The free event is set for 6:00 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, May 22 as that date coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. The Center is located at 250 East Center Street in Anaheim.

Professional comedians headlining the event are Aidan Park, founder of the Yay Foundation and an internationally touring comedian, bestselling author, and advocate for mental and emotional wellness through humor and storytelling. He will be joined on stage by Helen Hong and Ana Parsons.

Amateur comics set to perform include Eddy Fuentes, who is the community services supervisor at Radiant Futures, plus Jay Ranchh and Edwin Bai.

Nine Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) organizations will be on hand to discuss their services. Raffle prizes will be donated by local API businesses, with free food provided by Chups.

“In light of cultural stigmas that often prevent Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals from seeking help when confronted with domestic violence and trafficking, we are hosting a community comedy show to raise awareness and encourage those in need to reach out,” Radiant Futures Chief Executive Officer Mark Lee said.

The evening be a non-traditional way of using comedy as a method of trauma healing. As the event will touch on sensitive topics, such as family violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking that may be triggering for some individuals, it’s intended for a mature audience age 15 years and older.
