Cat Rescued From Burning Home, Thanks To Newport Beach Firefighters
The fire broke out in an above-garage housing unit in the 400 block of Heliotrope Avenue.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A local cat was freed up from using one of his nine lives after being rescued from his burning home by the Newport Beach Fire Department.
The above-garage fire broke out on Friday, June 30, in the 400 block of Heliotrope Avenue. Crews arrived after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the unit.
Upon arriving, firefighters were able to rescue a cat that was alone in the burning unit.

"Crews found an upstairs unit filled with smoke, and a fire at the entryway. Newport Engine 65 quickly extinguished the fire, and performed a search of the residence... the cat was found hiding under a bed in a back room."
No injuries were reported, and Newport Beach animal control provided shelter for the cat until the owner was available.

"The fire would have been much more severe if not for the timely call from the neighbor and the quick response from fire crews," a Newport Beach Fire Department statement read.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
