OC Beaches Trashed After July 4 Celebrations Clear: Report

Volunteers set out July 5 armed with gloves and garbage bags to clean up the countless pieces of litter and trash on Orange County's shores.

DANA POINT, CA — Volunteers took to the shores of Orange County Wednesday, July 5, to clean up the massive amount of litter and debris left by the hundreds of thousands of partiers who used the beaches to celebrate July 4, the Orange County Register reported.

According to the report, volunteers set out Wednesday to Venice Beach, San Pedro, Huntington Beach and Doheny State Beach in an effort to start cleaning up the Southern California beaches.

"It was a mess," KC Fockler, education coordinator for the North Orange County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation told the newspaper. "It's almost heart-wrenching."

Of the litter recovered included beer and soda cans, chip bags, fireworks and plenty of plastics.
