Seven Hour Standoff In Irvine Ends In Police Arrest
Residents living in the 1000 block of Elements Way in Irvine were evacuated by authorities for several hours early Thursday morning.
IRVINE, CA — A grueling seven-hour standoff between police officers and a suspect who was barricaded in an Irvine apartment ended Thursday morning, the Irvine Police Department reported Thursday. The suspect, who police said was believed to be armed and dangerous, was arrested by Irvine Police Department officers in the early morning hours of 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
The suspect was believed to be involved in an earlier domestic incident, the Irvine Police Department tweeted Thursday. Once police arrived to the scene at the 1000 block of Elements Way at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the suspect refused arrest and barricaded himself in his apartment.
Officers used a diversionary device to help them arrest the suspect after evacuating residents in the immediate area for several hours and closing a portion of Teller avenue.
