SigAlert: Another 405 SB Crash Worsens Morning Commute Through OC

The crash was caused when a truck used a flat tire lane to cut ahead of traffic on the southbound side of the freeway Thursday morning.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA — A second crash reported on the State route 405 freeway injured at least one person and worsened an already dismal traffic situation on the freeway Thursday morning traveling through north Orange County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 10:26 a.m. on the southbound site of the freeway near Euclid Street in Fountain Valley, roughly five miles north of a chain reaction crash involving at least seven vehicles that occurred just before 9 a.m. Thursday morning in Costa Mesa.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a gray Ford truck and a red sedan and injured at least one person. The status of the injured person was not immediately known.

The crash was caused when the Ford used the freeway's flat tire lane to cut ahead of traffic created by the original crash reported just an hour before, authorities said.

The collision worsened the already slow morning traffic, and as of 11:17 a.m., traffic on the freeway stretched back four miles from Euclid Street.

The incident prompted CHP officials to shut down several lanes on the freeway and issue a SigAlert for that part of the freeway.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the SigAlert is in place.
