One Person Died After Being Struck, Killed On 57 Freeway In Fullerton At Lambert

A pedestrian was struck and killed on the 57 Freeway in Fullerton, backing up morning traffic for miles.

FULLERTON, CA—Traffic was at a full stop after one person was struck and killed on the 57 Freeway early Monday morning, officials say. At least one car hit the pedestrian, officials say.

A full SigAlert is expected until 8 a.m. with drivers being diverted off the freeway at Lambert in the city of Fullerton, with drivers allowed to drive the wrong way to exit the freeway, according to reports.

Traffic was backed up into Diamond Bar as of 7 a.m., according to reports with a southbound commute from the San Gabriel Valley into Orange County estimated at over 90 minutes.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

California Highway Patrol has shut down the Lambert on-ramp to the 57 for an "unknown duration" and is diverting all freeway traffic off at Lambert, they say.

Witnesses reported the crash just after 5 a.m. on the southbound Orange Freeway at the Imperial Highway eastbound on-ramp.

The pedestrian died at the scene, the CHP said.

The age, gender and name of the pedestrian were not available, and as of 5:45 a.m., the coroner was en route to the scene.

The CHP issued the initial SigAlert at 5:20 a.m. for all southbound lanes.
