Storm Damages Wildlife Center In Orange County: How To Help

Orange County residents can help pay for repairs at the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center after this week's storm closed the center.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — With the heavy rains sweeping across Orange County, one vital animal care center needs your help.

The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach asked for the public's aid Thursday after rain damaged the center's ceiling tiles and electrical conduits, breakers and switches.

"Our hospital roof is leaking, causing damage to the ceiling tiles," Executive Director of the center Debbie McGuire said in a statement. "We had to shut down our treatment and nursery area until the repairs are done. Wounded wildlife needs our center to be fully operational."

In addition, the center had to shut down outside pool pumps due to the electrical issues caused by the storm.

McGuire said the center has reached out to the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union for help on the electrical issued, as the much-needed repairs are not covered by the center's insurance.
