Student Caught With Loaded 'Ghost Gun' At OC High School, Police Say

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A La Quinta High School student was arrested Tuesday morning in Westminster after fleeing the campus and being found with a loaded firearm, police said.
The incident happened at around 10 a.m. on April 28, when a school resource officer responded to a report of a student vaping on campus.
The student was taken to the principal's office without issue, but refused a search of his bag and ran from the school, Westminster police said in a news release.

The student was detained off campus and, during a search, a loaded firearm was bound in the student's bag, police said.
A check of the weapon later revealed it did not have a serial number, with police identifying the weapon as a "ghost gun," according to the Westminster Police Department.

The student was booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall on weapons-related charges.
His identity was not released.
