Supervisors Sarmiento & Nguyen are Heros to Homeless Pets in OC

I am asking as a resident of Orange County and one who cares about the homeless animals in our community, to express your thanks to Supervisors Sarmiento and Nguyen.

They have both shown a strong interest in reforming OC Animal Care (OCAC), your municipal shelter. I am not certain, but they might have had a hand in the following positive changes.

On January 16 OCAC announced some positive news that they are starting a pilot program to increase pet adoptions by expanding public viewing hours from 2-5pm to 12-5pm on weekends (they are still only open 2-5pm on weekdays). This ongoing lack of exposure to the public might explain the 1780 animals euthanized (I use this term loosely) between January and September 2024 (the vast majority were kittens at 1,253). This data was shared in the OCRegister Article on 12/6/24. Really, young kittens? Where is their foster program? Sorry-I didn’t intend to digress.

Another positive change is that they will be having quarterly on-site adoption events beginning January 25th, which will no doubt increase community engagement.
