Suspect, 21, Accused Of Shooting 2 Teens Has History Of Arrests

One of the teens was in critical condition as of Monday night, Orange County Sheriff's deputies said.

LAGUNA HILLS, CA — A 21-year-old south Orange County man with a history of recent drug and weapons arrests was in custody Monday on suspicion of shooting two 17-year-old boys in Laguna Hills.

Luis Angel Martinezmondragon of Aliso Viejo was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

Deputies were sent to the 25000 block of Alicia Parkway at about 10:05 p.m. Saturday, near the Laguna Hills Community Center. Upon arriving, authorities found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were identified as 17-year-old boys by authorities. One of the teenagers is expected to live, and the other was in critical condition as of Monday, deputies said.

Martinezmondragon was arrested at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in Aliso Viejo, authorities said in a statement.

Authorities said in a statement that a quinceñera was taking place at the community center when the shots rang out, but it is not clear if the shooting is linked to that in any way.

The suspect was due in a Santa Ana jail courtroom Tuesday regarding several pending cases that happened before the shooting on Saturday, court records show.

Martinezmondragon was arrested on March 23 and posted bail on March 29, according to Orange County jail records. He was being held on $1 million bail.

He was charged in March with misdemeanor counts of possession of a deadly weapon — a leaded cane — and nitrous oxide.

He was also charged in December with a felony count of vandalism.

Martinezmondragon was charged in September with a misdemeanor count of possession of nitrous oxide and in July of a misdemeanor count of possession of a substance similar to toluene, the solvent in some types of paint thinner that is sometimes used as a recreational inhalant.

Martinezmondragon was charged in December 2021 with a felony count of possession of a deadly weapon -- a leaded cane, and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle by a prohibited person. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of possessing a switch blade, a substance similar to toluene and selling nitrous oxide.
