SANTA ANA, CA — A 32-year-old transient was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of groping a woman in Santa Ana last night.

On Tuesday evening, a woman walking toward her apartment on the 1300 block of North Cabrillo Park Drive noticed she was being followed, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

"She was trying to get her keys out and get into her apartment because a transient was following her, to her upstairs residence," Bertagna said.

Unable to locate her keys, in her panic, she turned around to see that he had followed her to her door.

The victim was "petrified" as he allegedly grabbed at her groin area, Bertagna said. The woman "broke free" from his grasp and ran to a neighbor.

After she fled, the suspect then "dashed downstairs toward two other women," Bertagna said. 911 was called, yet again, though police had already arrived on scene.

Santa Ana police intervened "before he got to them," Bertagna said. The suspect was identified as Shon Michael Sharp.

He was booked on suspicion of sexual battery and was being held on $25,000 bail, according to jail records.
