Wildfire Breaks Out In South OC Park Friday Afternoon

The fire was reported at around 4:20 p.m. in a vacant field at Irvine's Great Park, just north of Wild Rivers.

IRVINE, CA — A brush fire broke out Friday afternoon in Irvine's Great Park amid a sizzling heat wave impacting desert and inland communities across California, the Irvine Police Department reported.

The fire was reported at around 4:15 p.m. in Irvine's Great Park, north of Wild Rivers Waterpark. It was not immediately known how many acres the fire has burned through.

Orange County firefighters were reported at the scene deploying a water-dropping helicopter to stop the brush fire.

No injuries were reported and the fire was reported to be far away from structures and homes, the IPD said in a statement.

At 4:37 p.m., the City of Lake Forest took to social media to advise residents of the fire and encourage community members to register for both AlertOC — the county's emergency notification system — and Nixle.
