Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI After Fatal Crash In Orange County

A 70-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of killing a bicyclist in Huntington Beach while driving under the influence, authorities say.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A 70-year-old woman accused of killing a bicyclist in Huntington Beach while driving a car under the influence was in custody Wednesday, the Huntington Beach Police Department reported.

Officers were called at around 6 p.m. Tuesday to Pacific Coast Highway, north of Admiralty Drive, where they learned a black SUV had struck a bicycle, HBPD Spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla told City News Service.

According to authorities, the SUV was driving southbound on the highway and struck the bicyclist traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway.

The bicyclist died of his injuries after being taken to a local hospital, authorities said.

The driver of the SUV was identified as authorities as Barbara Front, of Huntington Beach, who remained on the scene and was later arrested.

The investigation of the collision is ongoing and being handled by the department's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it was asked to call HBPD Traffic Investigator J. Rounds at 714-536-5670.
