Woman Mauled By Dog At OC Shelter Awarded $450K In Lawsuit

The volunteer was mauled by a Labrador-beagle mix at Orange County Animal Care's Tustin facility.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A volunteer mauled by a dog at an Orange County animal shelter was awarded $450,000 in a negligence lawsuit, The Orange County Register reported.

The Aug. 21, 2023 incident happened while Emily Moncur, 46, was taking photos of dogs available for adoption at the county's Tustin Animal Care Facility, the report said.

According to the report, Moncur's screams for help went unheard when she was attacked by a Labrador-beagle mix named Blaze.

The shelter was apparently understaffed at the time of the attack, and workers at the shelter were encouraged to wear earplugs, making it more difficult to hear Moncur's cries for help, the report said.
