Woman, Neighbor Dead After Murder-Suicide Shooting In OC Apartment, Police Say

The woman was discovered shot in her apartment complex, and a man was later found dead in a neighboring apartment, police say.

ANAHEIM, CA — A woman was fatally shot by a neighbor who later killed himself at an Orange County apartment complex, authorities said Friday.

The incident was reported at around 3:40 p.m. Thursday, April 25, when Anaheim Police and Anaheim Fire & Rescue officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located at 891 S. State College Blvd. in regard to a shooting.

Arriving officers found 59-year-old Ana Monterrosa of Anaheim, suffering from at least one gunshot wound, the Anaheim Police Department said in a statement. Monterrosa was moved to a local hospital and later died, police said.

An initial investigation found that the suspect, 67-year-old Brian Lawrence, was responsible for killing Monterrosa and lived in the same complex. Police said Lawrence returned to his apartment after the shooting.

At around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, SWAT Officers entered Lawrence's apartment and found his body. His cause of death is being ruled as suicide, police said.

The nature of the relationship between the victim and suspect was not immediately released due to the ongoing investigation.
