SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — South San Francisco Police responded to an anonymous threat of violence reported at Spruce Elementary School on Tuesday afternoon, which prompted a large police presence and a brief lockdown.
At around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Spruce Elementary received a threat via phone and immediately contacted police, initiating a school security alert and following lockdown protocols.
At 2:40 p.m., the South San Francisco Police Department sent out an alert confirming the significant police activity in the area of Spruce Elementary.
After an investigation, police confirmed there was no active or credible threat to the school. Officers worked with school staff to safely release students.

Authorities advised the public to avoid the intersections of Park Way and Spruce Avenue and Spruce Avenue and Lux Avenue due to the police activity. Significant traffic delays were expected, and drivers were asked to use alternate routes.
The investigation into the source of the anonymous threat is ongoing.
