PACIFICA, CA — Chit Chat Café is set to be demolished as the Pacifica Municipal Pier remains closed indefinitely due to safety concerns, according to a report by KRON4.
The closure came days after city officials shut down the pier after discovering cracking, separation and displacement of concrete walkway and structural elements near the pier abutment.
KRON4 reported that Pacific Gas & Electric cut off electricity and gas service to the café after the pier was closed.
Since then, cracks have appeared along the side of the building and the structure has begun to slope toward the ocean, according to the report.
"Absolutely, as folks can see, the building is coming down, it's going to fall if it doesn't get taken down," owner Ginger Davis told KRON4.
State Sen. Josh Becker has contacted the California Office of Emergency Services to seek state assistance, KRON4 reported. Pacifica officials have declared a local emergency, and the U.S. Coast Guard used drones Monday to assess damage to the pier.
As of Tuesday morning, heavy equipment had been positioned near the pier and demolition of the café appeared imminent, according to the report.
Chit Chat Café also operates a second location at 5 West Manor Drive in Pacifica.
