DUI Checkpoints Scheduled Across Los Angeles Through Sunday
The LAPD has several DUI checkpoints scheduled in an effort to combat the growing problem of drugged driving.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department wants drivers to know they'll be out in force this weekend looking for intoxicated drivers with DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols.
According to the LAPD, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes.
" If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI," according to a statement by the LAPD.

The department publicizes its DUI checkpoints because the publicity has been shown to reduce drunken driving. So far this year, LAPD officers have investigated 1,157 DUI related collisions resulting in eight fatal and 34 serious injury collisions.
