Norhtern Trust Open Golf Tournament

In 1944 the competition started anew at Wilshire Country Club and continued in 1945 at Riviera Country Club. In 1954 it was played at Fox Hills Country Club in Culver City, CA, the following year it moved to Inglewood, CA. From 1956 to 1972 the Nissan Open was held in LA (Rancho Park Golf Course), except 1968 (hosted at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, CA). Only from 1973 the Nissan Open settled permanently at Riviera Country Club. Only in 1998 it was held in Valencia, because Riviera was the host of the US Senior Open.

Originally, the Northern Trust Open was called the Los Angeles Open, and the tradition remained from 1926 till 1970. In 1971 it changed its name into the Glen Campbell-Los Angeles Open, and from 1984 it was simply named the Los Angeles Open. In 1987, when the official sponsor of the golf tournament became the Nissan Company, the tournament was renamed for the Los Angeles Open Presented by Nissan. From 1989 till 1994 it was known as the Nissan Los Angeles Open. The current name, the Nissan Open, was adopted in 1995.

The most prominent players of the Northern Trust Open include Macdonald Smith (a four-time champion), Craig Wood, Jimmy Hines, Ben Hogan (a three-time champion), Lloyd Mangrum (a four-time winner), Arnold Palmer (a three-time winner), Paul Harney (a two-time winner), Billy Casper (a two-time winner), Tom Watson (a two-time champion), Lanny Wadkins (a two-time winner), Fred Couples (a two-time winner), Corey Pavin (a two-time winner), Mike Weir (a two-time champion), and many others.
