PACIFIC PALISADES, CA – The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to add George Wolfberg Park at Potrero Canyon to the list of parks open from sunrise to sunset.

The park, which officially opened in December, had for the last several months been implicitly open from 5 am. to 10:30 p.m., a rule that applies to all city parks that don’t have official hours posted.

The Pacific Palisades Community Council says city officials had promised the park would close at sundown for nearly 40 years – dating back to the early planning stages.

The community council has told city officials the shorter hours will help ensure public safety.

Located above Pacific Coast Highway, the 46-acre, mile-long park had officially been in the works since 1986, but the effort among residents to get it built began two decades earlier. Grading work began the following year, but work stopped in 2004 due to a lack of funding.
