'Navy Nerds' Win AYSO Championship

The Navy Nerds, a local girls U14 soccer squad, captured the AYSO Region 69 championship last Sunday at , shutting out the Purple Panthers 2-0. 

Addy Atwill and Sarah Bonder scored the goals and goalkeepers Becky Sunkin and Elize Beglari posted their fifth straight shutout behind the exceptional defense, led by Katie Barnes. The Nerds are coached by Palisadian Molly Milligan and three of the players, Becky Sunkin, Clara Epstein, and Violet Selznick, live in Brentwood. Rounding out the squad are Kimberly Bleak, Katie Barnes, Claire Bertram, Haley Perrin, Eliza Beglari, Chloe Goldsmith, Sarah Bonder, Karen Kuczwaj, Charlotte Jernigan, Naomi Barlava, Sienna Brooks and Addy Atwill.

The team advances to the first round of the Area P playoffs January 21-22. Platinum-rated regions represent the best of the best that AYSO has to offer and Region 69, which encompasses Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, was among the regions given platinum status in 2010 .
