Park Leads Council; Hertzberg Leads District 3: Early Election Results

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — The polls are closed in Pacific Palisades, and voters will soon know the fate of Los Angeles City Council and the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The most recent results from the Los Angeles County Clerk were updated at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday morning and reflect 23.4 percent of the county's votes. The next ballots counted will be a random selection of batches for the one percent manual tally that will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10:15 a.m.

According to the County Clerk's office, voters should expect to see more updates between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. A full timeline for the Canvass Update Schedule is available at this link. The final results won't be released until December, according to the schedule.

Pacific Palisades voters decided between civil rights attorney Erin Darling or municipal law attorney Traci Park to the Los Angeles City Council District 11. One of the contenders will replace Mike Bonin covering much of the west side and beach cities.

Early results showed Park leading the race to represent the 11th District for Los Angeles City Council. Park had 55.46 percent of the vote by Wednesday morning.

For the first time in eight years, there is no incumbent running for mayor in the city, and voters are being asked to decide the pitched battle between Rep. Karen Bass and developer Rick Caruso to lead Los Angeles.

Early Wednesday, Caruso had a lead with 51.25 percent of the vote. Caruso trailed with 48.75 percent.

There are two open seats for the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education.

Rocio Rivas and Maria Brenes both seek to replace incumbent Monica Garcia in District 2, serving the Downtown area east to Boyle Heights and Highland Park. Brenes led Wednesday morning with 50.80 percent of the vote, with Rivas following with 49.20 percent.

In the eastern portion of the San Fernando Valley, incumbent school board President Kelly Gonez is facing challenger and Spanish teacher Marvin Rodriguez in District 6. Gonez led with 50.28 percent of the vote.

Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna had a strong lead in the contentious Los Angeles County Sheriff's race, leading over incumbent Alex Villanueva. Luna had 56.78 percent of the vote early Wednesday morning.

State senator Bob Hertzberg and West Hollywood City Council member Lindsey Horvath fought for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, District 3 seat.

Hertzberg led early Tuesday night with 51.23 percent of the vote. Horvath trailed with 48.77 percent, based on early returns reflecting some mail-in ballots and in-person votes received prior to Tuesday.

"I am so incredibly proud of our people-powered campaign to bring much needed change and equity to Los Angeles County. As we saw in the primary, there are still a lot of votes left to be counted. We are optimistic we will prevail when the final results are certified," Horvath said. "No matter what happens, I am confident our diverse coalition of supporters will continue to fight for our shared vision ."

County voters also weighed in on a ballot measure for county authorities to be able to remove a sheriff and a cannabis business tax. Visit this link for a full list of ballot measures in LA County.

As of Oct. 24, 2,110,327 people were registered to vote in Los Angeles. 1,223,664 people were registered Democratic compared to 273,989 registered Republican. Some 480,586 voters were registered without party preference, according to Los Angeles County Registrar data.
