Pali High Boys Soccer Blanks Torres
The Dolphins win their City playoff opener 3-0 at Stadium by the Sea.
Ben Kim, Tyler Newman and Kyle Warner each scored and goalkeeper Brandon Newman made five saves as the Palisades High School boys soccer team shut out 25th-seeded Esteban Torres, 3-0, in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Large Schools Division playoffs Wednesday afternoon at Stadium by the Sea.
Warner has scored a team-high 12 goals and Newman has eight shutouts for the Western League winners, who took a 1-0 halftime lead on the way to their ninth victory in 10 games. The Toros (10-4-1), runners-up in the Central League, had only seven shots.
The eighth-seeded Dolphins (14-4-1) will host ninth-seeded Woodland Hills Taft in the second round Friday. The Toreadors got by No. 24 L.A. Marshall 1-0 in their opener. A win against Taft would set up a potential quarterfinal showdown at top-seeded Bell, which routed Santee 5-0 in the first round.
