PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Firefighters successfully stopped forward progress of a small brush fire that had the potential to threaten a dense neighborhood off Pacific Coast Highway Tuesday night, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The LAFD reported that the quarter-acre brush fire was burning at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday near Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon Road, across from Will Rogers State Beach.

At that time, firefighters reported that the flames could have threatened the Pacific Palisades Bowl Mobile Estates neighborhood on Samoa Way.

But within 30 minutes, firefighters had stopped all forward progress and no structures were threatened. Crews planned to fully extinguish the flames overnight and transition into a mop-up operation to handle any hotspots, according to the LAFD.

Firefighters said wind was not a factor in the brush fire, but strong Santa Ana winds earlier this week raised the threat of wildfire in parts of the Southland. The Red Flag Warning prompted Southern California Edison to shut off power to thousands, including in parts of Malibu.
