Second La Señora Fundraiser Features Wine Tasting, Celebrity Book Signings
Proceeds from Santa Monica Canyon event enable La Señora Research Institute to provide educational and cultural programs such as historic lecture series, chamber music, concerts and classic film screenings.
The La Señora Research Institute is gearing up for its second annual
fundraiser this weekend.
The planning committee invites the community to their festive Summer Wine Tasting and celebrity book signing event Saturday, Aug. 17 in Santa Monica Canyon. It takes place from 3 to 5:30 p.m., at 565 Dryad Road.
The proceeds of this fundraising event enables La Señora docents to provide educational and cultural programs such as historic lecture series, chamber music, concerts and classic film screenings. In 2009, this hidden treasure was awarded the California Governor’s Award for Historic Conservation for “its innovative, integrative educational program."
La Señora is located at the Jose Mojica Hacienda, on land originally part of the 1839 Mexican Land Grant Rancho Boca de Santa Monica. In 2009, this hidden treasure was awarded the California Governor’s Award for Historic Conservation for “its innovative, integrative educational program”.
Rancho Ventavo and Cantara Wineries will be featuring their finest wines in the historic 1920’s botanical gardens and each guest will receive a commemorative wine glass to take home.
Two well-known local celebrities will be signing their most recent books, according to event organizers, including Madame Wu and her famous “Madame Wu’s Garden: A Pictorial History of a Celebrated Landmark.”
Wu is a celebrated restaurateur, author and philanthropist. She opened her restaurant on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica in 1959 and entertained Hollywood’s top celebrities and other dignitaries.
Ernest Marquez will also be signing his new book “Noir Afloat.” He was born and grew up in Santa Monica Canyon on what remains of Rancho Boca de Santa Monica, the Mexican land grant awarded to his great-grandfathers in 1839. His research for ”Noir Afloat” was an extension of his groundbreaking work for his bestselling book, “Santa Monica Beach.”
La Señora Research Institute is a public, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving local history and cultural heritage. Nestled in Santa Monica Canyon.
Tickets for the event are $50. Advance reservations are required.
