West LA Fire Damages Multiple Offices

An apartment fire spread to an attic and damaged multiple office units on Santa Monica Boulevard.

WEST LOS ANGELES, CA — A west Los Angeles apartment fire threatened nearby offices Sunday night, filling several units with smoke before firefighters could douse the blaze.

The fire was reported just after 5 p.m. Sunday at 10642 W. Santa Monica Blvd., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange. The blaze started in one unit of a two-story building then spread to the attic, affecting at least three units with fire and smoke damage, said Prange.

"Thankfully, the offices did not appear to be occupied at the time," he said. "Firefighters began with a transitional attack, utilizing hose lines from the outside first then moving inside, as crews on the roof provided vertical ventilation allowing smoke and heated gases to escape. It took 30 firefighters 26 minutes to extinguish the flames."
