• Man arrested after use of battery-powered grinder starts fire near Palermo (actionnewsnow.com) — A vegetation fire that burned about four acres near Palermo on Monday has been traced to a man using a battery-powered grinder in dry, waist-high grass without any safety precautions. CAL FIRE officers arrested a 58-year-old suspect and are urging Palermo and Butte County residents to use power tools carefully, keep clearance around dry vegetation, and have water or extinguishers ready during fire season.
