2 Palm Desert Schools Temporarily Locked Down After Burglary Report: Sheriff

PALM DESERT, CA — Two schools in Palm Desert were temporarily placed on lockdown Friday afternoon while deputies investigated a possible burglary in the area, authorities said.

As a precaution, Palm Desert High School and Sacred Heart School were placed on lockdown around 2 p.m. after deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Calle Lantana, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrived and searched a nearby residence but no suspects were located, authorities said.

Authorities said there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area of Deep Canyon Road and Moss Ross Lane.

At 2:43 p.m., authorities said students at both schools would be released and no further public safety threat was present.
