24 Days In Hospital, Firefighter Injured In Indio Blaze Goes Home

Anthony Reyes was injured while fighting a fire at a single-family home on Dec. 8 in the 81100 block of Durango Drive in Indio.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighter who was injured last month in a house fire was discharged after spending 24 days in the hospital, fire officials said Saturday.

Anthony Reyes, along with four other firefighters, was injured while fighting a fire at a single-family home on Dec. 8 in the 81100 block of Durango Drive in Indio.

His four colleagues suffered from smoke inhalation, while Reyes suffered burns and was taken to the burn unit at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.

Two residents at the home also suffered minor injuries, according to fire officials.

On Friday, Reyes was welcomed back home by family, friends and co-workers.

A video posted to social media by the fire department showed Reyes with bandages on his arms and using a walker as he returned home from the hospital.
