Large Aftershock Rattles SoCal Following Magnitude 4.9 Quake

Another big aftershock rattled Southern California early Wednesday morning. Did you feel it?

INDIO, CA — A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California's Coachella Valley overnight as aftershocks continue to rattle the area following a 4.9 magnitude quake Monday evening.

The temblor hit around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday roughly 12 miles north-northeast of Indio in Riverside County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was relatively shallow at about 2.6 miles and was felt as far south as San Diego, according to the USGS's "Did You Feel It?" map. Residents reported feeling the quake across Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.

No damage or injuries have been reported.

A magnitude 2.5 aftershock was recorded at 1:08 a.m. in roughly the same location.

An earthquake swarm has rattled the region since a magnitude 4.9 quake struck Monday night near Indio. By 7:26 a.m. Tuesday, the Southern California Seismic Network had recorded 207 aftershocks.
