71-Year-Old Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Indio Crash

Police found the cyclist beneath a Chevrolet Silverado.

INDIO, CA — A 71-year-old man who was riding a bicycle was hospitalized in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle Tuesday in Indio.

Officers responded to a collision at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Monroe Street and Avenue 42, according to the Indio Police Department.

They found the cyclist, whose identity was not revealed, beneath a Chevrolet Silverado. He sustained significant injuries and was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified only as a 52-year-old man, did not sustain injuries and was cooperative with investigators. Police said DUI is not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

The intersection of Monroe Street and Avenue 42 temporarily closed and reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
