8 Arrested at Weekend Checkpoint

A Saturday night checkpoint nabs drivers for DUI and driving without a valid license.

Deputies arrested four suspected drunken drivers at a checkpoint that wrapped up early Sunday in Palm Desert, a sheriff's department spokesman said.

There were 829 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint set up on
Monterey Avenue, south of Magnesia Falls Drive, between 8 p.m. Saturday and 3
a.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Dave Adams.

Deputies administered 25 field sobriety tests, arrested four other
drivers caught driving unlicensed or with suspended licenses, and seven
vehicles were impounded, Adams said.
