80 Desert Church of Christ volunteers lend a hand to Angel View

On a service day to honor Martin Luther King, Palm Desert-based congregation assists Angel View for ninth year

DESERT HOT SPRINGS -- It’s a new blue for Angel View.

On Monday's Martin Luther King Day of service, more than 80 members of the Desert Cities Church of Christ volunteered to paint, plant, and polish portions of the Angel View facility in Desert Hot Springs.

The Miracle Hill Road location is used for the therapeutic Day program for both community and residential clients, also doctor’s appointments and some program offices. The workout room which is utilized by the clients for movement activities, complete with treadmills, rowing machines and other equipment, was painted a bright blue, along with a kitchen area and some offices.

“We serve the community and one of the ways we serve is to beautify one of the areas that needs our help,” he said. “We planted flower beds, painted over 2,000 square feet and organized several workrooms – one for the wheelchairs.”

Angel View executive director Patti Park was appreciative of the effort from all of the church members, ranging from pre-teen to adults.

“This is for our clients to enjoy the area and these types of projects are hard to do on our own,” she said. “Taking this day, Martin Luther King Day, to really do a community project here, we so appreciate all of their effort.”

Hope International provides community service across the county and Desert Cities Church of Christ is part of that of that movement. The local church congregation hails from throughout the Coachella Valley.

Women’s ministry leader M.J. Saltz added: “We all serve on this day, from all over the county and it’s a blessing for us to serve this community.”
