CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A Cathedral City man suspected of shooting at his 41-year-old son while intoxicated barricaded himself inside a residence, culminating in an all-night standoff that ended with him being apprehended by authorities Thursday.

Officers responded to a report of an assault at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 68100 block of Tortuga Road, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.

They learned that Mickel Gomorre, 78, allegedly fired a gun inside the residence, with no injuries to his son, whose identity was withheld. Officers at the scene were able to remove the son and another occupant safely.

Police said Gomorre was "highly intoxicated," armed and refused to cooperate or surrender, which led officers to "back away from the residence."

The department's detectives, in cooperation with Desert Regional SWAT, surrounded the residence at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Gomorre was taken into custody safely after authorities observed that he was unable to move "due to his physical condition," the department stated.

Paramedics arrived at the scene a short time later and took him to a local hospital for treatment of an unspecified ailment. Authorities said he will be transferred to jail once he is medically cleared by hospital staff.

A served search warrant inside the home revealed 45 firearms which were seized, police said. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office will review his case, according to the department.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call 760-770-0383, or report tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
